Natey & Katy: At the Movies

Stormy Legacy and Raw Rhythms

Season 4 Episode 56

"Send us a Text!"

Ever wondered how a summer blockbuster can recapture the magic of a 90s classic? Join me and my wife Elizabeth as we break down "Twisters," a thrilling reboot of the beloved "Twister." Starring Glenn Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos, this film brings back the excitement and nostalgia, all while steering clear of the global warming debate. We both found it a joyride from start to finish and awarded it an impressive 5.5 out of 6 stars. Listen in to hear our take on the action-packed scenes, memorable characters, and the potential for future sequels that might just keep the storm chasing alive!

Switching gears, I dive into the unexpected and fascinating world of Irish hip-hop with Kneecap's origin story, portrayed by the band members themselves. This film offers a raw and unique presentation, blending Irish-language rap with a mission to preserve the Irish language. While the content might be intense with its nudity and strong language, it’s an eye-opening look into a vibrant musical journey. Don’t miss our sneak peek at next week's Surprise Saturday episode, which promises to be a spoiler-filled thrill ride, and mark your calendars for our final July episode featuring "The Elephant Man" on Natey & Katy: At the Movies. Speaker 1:

Surprise Saturday with you Time parade. One star Flip today, my boo and we stay. Hello everyone, and welcome to another Surprise Saturday episode and another double feature episode. I'll be talking about two movies, so let's get right into it. The first movie I want to be talking about I saw with my lovely wife, elizabeth Hi, elizabeth, hi, and that movie is Listen to this Clip, tyler.

Speaker 1:

Do we know which storm we're going after yet? Oh, why don't we ask Kate, hi, kate, I'm Tyler and I'm Ben. I'm a reporter Doing a piece on American storm chasing. Tyler's letting me ride along and Ben just had to promise to write nothing but good stuff about me. Good luck with that, hang on. You didn't say which way we were going yet.

Speaker 1:

Now, from what I gather, west we double our chances East. Well, it's high risk, high reward. Well, go for the reward. There's no one been to think you're boring. Now, boring is not usually a problem for me, kate. Two cells to the west are fighting over the same inflow. They'll choke each other out. This one of the east is the sky all to herself. Moisture, wind, shear, instability all the things you need to give ben a good show. We're talking about twisters, which is the soft reboot, I guess, of the 1993 twister with helen hunt and billxton, but this one has some different people. It has Glenn Powell, daisy, edgar Jones and Anthony Ramos. So, like I said, it is a soft reboot, so it's not directly tied to the 1993. It shows the Dorothy machine and that's about it.

Speaker 1:

Elizabeth, what did you think of this movie? I really enjoyed it. Why, it was thrilling and very clean for movies nowadays. And one thing a lot of people are talking about is you know it is a movie about weather. And one thing a lot of people are talking about is you know it is a movie about weather. And so a lot of people are talking about how they don't really mention the GW words global warming. So that was kind of a. That was nice. Yeah, that was a surprise. It was just purely entertaining. Yeah, it was just a good summer blockbuster movie. It's doing really well in the box office and so they don't know if they're going to make more. They kind of hinted that they could.

Speaker 1:

So that is Twisters Short, sweet review. It's a good movie. Go and see it. Do you have any last words for this movie? It was great. So what would you give this movie out of our rating system. Out of six stars, um, I'd say 5.5. Yeah, I agree, I agree, I'll give it a 5.5 as well. So that is twisters. Thanks for joining me talking about that, babe. Yeah, you're welcome anytime. So let's move on to our second movie of this double feature surprise Saturday episode.

Speaker 1:

This movie was another unseen screen movie, so I did not know what I was going to be watching when I went into the theater. So take a listen and we'll get right into it. Tell me something about you, something you've never told anyone else. I'm a rapper. There are 80,000 native Irish speakers in Ireland. I don't know the language, but I know it. Three of us have become rappers. You may know the words, but you don't understand the language. I think it's a bit hard to understand the language. I think it's better to go to the studio and wrench beats. I think so. Well, it's not really that bad, it's good.

Speaker 1:

I ended up watching the based on a true story origin story of an Irish hip-hop band called kneecap. I was not expecting this whatsoever, but I'm starting to get the feeling that whenever you go to these movies and they show the trailers, one of those trailers is going to be the next unseen screen film. So this movie was one of the trailers in my last unseen screen and you know what. There was bound to be one of these trailers in my last unseen screen and you know what. There was bound to be one of these. That was just a random out there, not really my kind of vibe movie, and that's what this was. So before I can talk about it even more, I'll go over the synopsis.

Speaker 1:

When fate brings Belfast teacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed low-life scum Naos and Liam Ogg, the needle drops on a hip-hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish, they lead a movement to save their mother tongue. This movie actually stars the real-life members of this band, so it's mogley bap, moshara, dj prova and it has josie walker and I apologize for the background noise. I am recording where my dog presley is, so if you hear some coughing, he an old dog, so don't worry about him, but that's what you may hear from time to time. So, like I said, this movie is not really one that I would have sought out.

Speaker 1:

They did tell this story in a really fun, interesting way. It kind of felt like a semi-comic book movie because they doodled on the screen and just threw up a lot of like words on the screen. Some of it was subtitles because, just like the synopsis said, this is a story about Irish guys wanting to sing in their Irish native language, and so that's what they do. A lot of the movie they speak in an Irish language that is very hard to understand and so they had to do with subtitles. And for a movie that I just probably would have never watched, it was entertaining enough.

Speaker 1:

There is some content in it that I wasn't necessarily a fan of. There is some nudity in it, there is some language language in it, and so that obviously was a little bit off-putting. But again, it's an unseen screen film, so you don't know what you're going to get, and that's what I got. The music was fun, the there was some funny moments. Another thing that was kind of I wasn't a big fan of is they kind of glorified drug use, and I didn't really like that that much.

Speaker 1:

But the biggest thing about this movie is I don't know how well this movie will do, because this is a band that I've never heard of. I don't know that many people who may have heard of this band before, so maybe hardcore kneecap fans might go see this, but other than that it's not really. It's not really a movie that I think will do that well in the box office. One really random cast member was Michael Fassbender. If you don don't know who that is, he played Magneto in the X-Men first class movies those versions of the X-Men you know. He's been in those. He's been in other movies as well, so he's a pretty well-known guy to be in this film. I don't know if he's a fan of kneecap, I don't know. But I mean I can't really recommend this movie because I think it's a very particular audience. You know, like if you're a fan of the band might appreciate it, but other than that I don't really see this movie doing that well in the box office. So sorry, I will give kneecap probably a 2.5, maybe three out of six stars because it was entertaining at times. But again, I don't know. I don't know what the audience is going to be for this film.

Speaker 1:
