Natey & Katy: At the Movies Season 3 Episode 44

"Send us a Text!"

Are you longing for a cinematic adventure filled with suspense, laughter, and unexpected surprises? Buckle up, as I, Nathan aka Natey, take you on a thrilling journey of the latest slasher flick - Thanksgiving, minus my partner-in-crime, Katy. I’ll lead you through the maze of this spooky film, where every character is a suspect and the twisted climax adds an ingenious touch to the plot. Sure, there were parts that dragged on, like the overlong Black Friday riot scene. But, I promise this wild ride is worth every second!

Listening in, you'll get an inside look into my likes and dislikes about the movie. The film is a treat for slasher fans, keeping you on edge throughout. There's jocularity amid the chaos, as the audience's reactions to the over-the-top violence add a fun twist to the experience. However, not everything is a hit. Some characters were plain annoying, and their demise didn't evoke much sympathy. Was this a downside or a guilty pleasure? Well, you'll have to tune in to find out. And be prepared, I might even let slip who the killer is. Get ready, this Thanksgiving special is one you won't forget!

One's a movie buff, one watches movies, just enough. Together, fun will be had by all. This is Nadie and Katie at the Movies. Hello everyone, and welcome to the Thanksgiving episode of Nadie and Katie at the Movies. I'm your host, nathan, aka Nadie. Of course, if you watched the teaser video on our TikTok, then you already know that Katie is not on this episode, because it is a surprise movie episode, and the movie I'm going to be talking about is a movie that she did not want to go see, and I'm about to reveal it right now. Drum roll, please.

Speaker 1:

The movie is, ironically enough, thanksgiving. That's right, I'm going to be reviewing the newest slasher holiday film, thanksgiving. But before I can talk about my thoughts, I have to go over the synopsis. After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, massachusetts, the birthplace of the infamous holiday Thanksgiving. Stars Neil Verlach, gabriel Davenport and Patrick Dempsey that's right, dr McDreamy is in this movie. So when I saw the trailer for this, I actually debated if I was going to go see it or not, because it looked kind of silly. And then I talked to Katie about the film and I was like you know what? It'd be kind of fun if we release this review on Thanksgiving, and she thought it was a great idea. So I went to go see it the day after. I went to go see the movie that we'll be reviewing next week, which is the Hunger Games, the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. But let me talk about Thanksgiving first. So let me just dive right in to my likes and dislikes. I have surprisingly more likes than I do dislikes. So my likes are that this movie was just fun.

Speaker 1:

It was a fun, random slasher film. I've seen videos of. You know how they try to promote these movies with reactions from the audience and the people in the audience are usually screaming. That was not my experience in this movie. The reaction I got from people is laughter because it's just so random and it's just so. The violence is so over the top that it's just silly. And it was also fun because you had people talking to the screens like why would you go back in there? Don't go in there. Oh, he's over there. You know it was just a fun experience. You know, usually when you go to a movie and people are talking, it annoys you, but with movies like this it was just a fun time. So that was my number one like another, like I had is going into this movie.

Speaker 1:

I thought I had an idea of who the killer would be, and this movie had me guessing the entire time, had you questioning almost every single character in the movie, which I enjoyed. It made it interesting. It made you want to invest in what was happening and find out who the killer was. So that was a really big like for me. It made the movie even more enjoyable and I also thought for my third, like I thought this movie was clever. It had a good twist. It had you know the person doing this did it for a reason that no one would have expected, because they didn't reveal anything about this character and the connection they had with certain people in the film, and so I just thought it was a clever, clever ending and I just I actually enjoyed this movie.

Speaker 1:

So let's go to my dislikes. The beginning of this movie happens during a Black Friday event and people rush into the store and it just gets ridiculous and people get crushed and killed and all these random things happen to these people. I felt like it went on a little too long. I understood what they were trying to do and trying to show and I just felt like it dragged a little bit at the beginning. Other than that, I thought the acting was pretty good. I will say, a lot of the characters that died I didn't really feel bad for, because they were kind of jerks and annoying, and that's kind of the reason why the killer kills them is because they're annoying and not nice people. So I guess that would be another dislike. Maybe or maybe a like, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I Was also debating if I was gonna spoiler the heck out of this movie and give away who the killer is, and I'm still thinking about it as I'm recording this when I will fall. Saw the trailer, something stuck out to me, and it was the fact that majority of the actors in this movie are Fairly unknown. I think the female lead was in a Disney plus show with John Stamos, the basketball one that I think got canceled. Another actor is actually the guy who plays Joseph in the journey to Bethlehem that is out now in theaters, and so there they're like a couple people that I kind of recognized. But there is only one actor that I obviously knew, and that was Patrick Dempsey, and so when I saw him in this movie I said there's got to be a reason that he's the only fairly well-known actor in this movie and even Though one of my likes was that this movie had me guessing Because I had an idea who the killer was. Spoiler alert I was right.

Speaker 1:

Patrick Dempsey's character is the killer in this movie and you don't really like the way he portrays the character. He does a really good job at At not giving it away, and so the very last scene where the big reveal happens, I Thought he did a fantastic job. The only thing that kind of annoyed me a little bit was this is Based in Massachusetts where, you know, people have that Boston accent. He kind of went in and out with his accent a little bit, but it wasn't like a deal-breaker to me because, again, I thought he did a really good job at portraying the character and, again, not giving away Through his performance that this was the killer and then, like I said, the big reveal and the reason behind it Was just was just clever to me.

Speaker 1:

I Actually enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would. It kind of reminded me of the Marvel's. You know, I went in with very low expectations and I ended up enjoying it. What can I say? So I'm gonna go ahead and rate this thing, and I can't believe I'm rating it as high as I am. I'm gonna give Thanksgiving a stunning 4.5 out of6 stars.

Speaker 1:

If you like slasher films, I think you'll enjoy it. It's actually based on an idea that Eli Roth had when he Directed the Grindhouse movies. Apparently, he made a spoof trailer about a Thanksgiving killer and From that this movie was created. If you've ever watched the Grindhouse movies which I haven't those are very over-the-top violent and that's exactly what this movie was. So if you can handle the over-the-top violence and just see it as silly, then I think you might enjoy Thanksgiving, even though I spoiled it. So that is Thanksgiving. Be on the lookout for the Hunger Games, the ballad of songbirds and snakes Coming soon to nady and Katie at the movies. And because this is Thanksgiving, the way I'm gonna end it is Thanks for listening to nady and Katie at the movies. Feel free to leave us a review so people can find the show.
